Steubenville Preparation: June 24-26, 2022
Logistical Details:
All teens and a parent will be added to a Group Me group. This will only provide communication within your Steubenville small group. Parents, in order for us (adults) to text your teens, you must be a part of the group as well. However, if you do not want to get dinged annoyingly all weekend, you can log on to GroupMe on the computer and mute the conversation. This way you still receive messages and are in the loop if you log on to Group Me on the computer, but you are not getting notified constantly with every detail.
So please, when you receive a request to be part of a group me, please accept it and please do NOT leave the group - Just mute it.
Steubenville App: The Steubenville App gives access to many details about the conference, including schedules and meal times. I highly recommend it!
Access the Steubenville Conference app specific to your conference weekend by downloading the “myParish” app from the iTunes/Google Play Store. Once downloaded, click “Find a Parish” and type in “Steubenville Main Campus” and select the weekend you will be attending (Main Campus 3). All information pertinent to the conference weekend is present in the app.
Important Packing Notes:
· It is very important that you bring a refillable water bottle. It is summer, and we are outside a lot during this conference. Please be diligent about hydration.
· Teens should bring a lunch on Friday. We are stopping at a rest stop halfway during both bus rides, but time to purchase food there cannot be guaranteed. Teens will be given a bag lunch to eat on the bus on Sunday, and dinner on Sunday will be provided at the reception at Corpus Christi.
· You may want to consider bringing a phone charger with you (preferably one that doesn't require use of an outlet). Please be responsible with your cell phone use so that it stays alive all day and we are able to reach you if needed.
· We spend some time kneeling, and it can get a bit hard on your knees at times. Bringing a sweatshirt to kneel on, or wearing flip flips and kneeling on them, have been good strategies to not let discomfort keep you from prayer. They also sell foam sit upons at the bookstore for between $5 and $10.
· Have a backpack and bring it on campus with you for the day, as we CANNOT return to the hotel room at any point during the day. I usually don't bring a purse, and instead keep my phone, wallet, sweatshirt, and water bottle in my backpack, as well as any prayer materials.
· We recommend bringing spending money. Franciscan University has a pretty large bookstore with merchandise, souvenirs, things like that, for sale.
· We will have movies on the bus (feel free to bring a favorite, appropriate for youth group DVD), but be prepared to entertain yourself as well!
· Packing list is enclosed.
Packing List For Steubenville 2022:
Spiritual Preparation
Steubenville’s mission is to empower young Catholics to “experience the life-changing love of Christ and be strengthened in their journey of discipleship with thousands of Catholics from around the world.” There are a few unique ways that the Steubenville Conference fosters this encounter, and the teens will be given information about the conference’s spirituality before and throughout the conference. Parents, if you are interested in learning more, please contact Danielle at [email protected].
We encourage you to pray for our group leading up to the conference, and in a special way throughout the weekend! In particular, the teens will be at Eucharistic Adoration on Saturday evening – feel free to stop by St. Stanislaus or St. Catherine of Siena to pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our group in a special way during that time.
Rules for Steubenville 2022:
1.Respect each other, the Campus of Steubenville and the Hotel we will be staying at this weekend! We ask that you respect the Adult Core Team and if they ask you to do something, do it.
2.A curfew will be set each night based on the timing of activities. This curfew will be communicated to the teens via the adult leaders. Teens should notify small group leaders when they are in their room. Once curfew begins, the adults will double check in on each hotel room to be sure all teens assigned to that room are present. After the adults check in, teens are in for the night and may not leave the hotel room.
3. You may not leave the campus or hotel without two adults. Once in the Field House, you may not leave. If you do, Danielle will have you call your parents and they will come and pick you up on Campus and you will not be invited to join us for the upcoming Steubenville Trip next summer. You will have free time and a chance to run around the campus, please do not abuse this freedom.
4.Use speech that is uplifting! Wear clothing that does not reveal too much. Men, do not let us see your underwear or walk around without a shirt on (In your hotel room or while swimming are the only exceptions). Ladies, please wear shorts that go past your fingertips, no low cuts, or mid drifts showing. Your undergarments should not be visible through the sleeves of your shirts. (Pajama clothing can be worn only in your hotel rooms, bathing suits only at the pool while swimming).
5.If you are awarded a strike from the Conference (this could happen for discipline or dress code reasons), you are responsible for payment of the fee. $25 for the first strike, $25 for the second strike and the group will not be allowed to return next year if you get a third and you will again be required to pay the $25 fee.
6.No drugs or alcohol. If brought you will have a 30 minute grace period once checked into the hotel to give these to Danielle or a Core Member and you will call your parents, but not be sent home. Anytime after that, you will call your parents and your parents will have to come pick you up.
7.There is no changing Small Groups or Hotel Rooms. You may not be in the hotel room of the opposite gender at any time. You will check in with your small group leader any time we get onto the bus, when you arrive in the field house, when we meet at the library and before we walk down to the hotel at the end of the night. Small group leaders will be check in on your hourly during free time as well.
8.Cell Phone Policy is this: You may have your phone with you in the hotel and on campus in case of you getting lost or an emergency. You will not be allowed to have your cell phone on during sessions in the field house – take your photos before or after sessions. If we see you with your phone in the field house you will have it taken away until the end of the session. Please do not abuse this opportunity we have given you.
9.Do not go anywhere alone. Explore the campus in groups of three or more.
Logistical Details:
